Leave Monday alone, the real week starts on Friday!
We’re rolling out a new weekly issue about what’s not to be missed during the week and those are hopefully the only pills you’d need to get through it…
FRI 13
INTERNATIONAL R.KELLY DAY – The reason why we should celebrate R.Kelly is completely obscure, but…if this has to be a thing, better to party in style at Roest!
FRI 13 – SUN 15
TON TON CLUB XL – Westergasfabriek turns itself into a vintage arcade heaven with music, food and lots of fun. While outside at Westerpark the annual Nostalgische Kermis has plenty of attractions for kids of every age.
CINEDANS – The 12th festival edition about Dance on Screen at EYE is full of gems like the one by Ruben van Leer, the first to shoot a fictional film in CERN, in Geneva. Check the schedule and go early to visit also the exhibition on Jean Desmet.
SAT 14 – SUN 15
24H: WEST - Amsterdam West is in great shape this weekend, with tons of events and workshops organized by the city in collaboration with shops and venues, so you discover a part of ‘Dam that maybe you don’t know yet.
NEIGHBORFOOD MARKET: #FOODPORN – Great weekend at Westergasfabriek where, after you tired your eyeballs out, you can train your tastebuds at the dozens of food stalls and attend a workshop about food photography, just to keep your Instagram profile nice and sharp.
LOCAL GOODS WEEKEND MARKET – If you want to have a rest from the 24H:West explorations, De Hallen will offer plenty of good food and an indoor market of small but interesting local brands.
SUN 15
IRISH DANCING – Yes, why not? St.Patrick’s Day is near and if you’re still hangover from the night before, trying to replicate these moves could be an extreme experience. At Splendor Amsterdam at 2pm. And it’s free!
MON 16
SHOOT AMSTERDAM – You’re never expert enough in photography, so better stay updated with this full day seminars organized by Pakhuis de Zwijger.
TUE 17
ST. PATRICK’S DAY – As a reminder…just wear green and stop at an Irish bar of your choice.
WED 18
INTERNET: FREEDOM OR REPRESSION? – Time to be serious and attend this panel about net activism and freedom of speech. Because there’s more on the Internet than foodporn and hipsterism. At DeBalie in English.
THU 19
EX-PATS CINEMA - Finally a theater that screens international movies (non-english) with English subtitles. The expat community rejoice. At LAB111, this week there’s LEVIATHAN, so no excuses to miss it.
ALL WEEK
LATE REMBRANDT – Besides the great masterpieces permanently exhibited at Rijksmuseum, now you can see also admire over 100 of the paintings, drawings and prints that Rembrandt produced in the final phase, when his popularity at the time faded away because of, among other reasons, his bad temper.
BILL VIOLA -Enjoy two of his most jaw-dropping video installations, Tristan’s Ascension (The Sound of a Mountain Under a Waterfall) and Fire Woman. At Nieuwekerk.
