THE NEW RIJKSMUSEUM (2014), Oeke Hoogendijk – IDFA 2014
Documentary – 130′
Just because the renovation of the most important museum in the Netherlands has been an odyssey, that doesn’t mean the viewer should go through the same agony of the administration!
Or maybe it is necessary to understand the moments of delusion, desperation, consternation that goes with a project like this, which must meet the expectations of the most pickiest Dutch. You need strength and determination. A LOT of them!
So build some character and go through this sort of kubrickian 130’ long documentary (originally 4 hours. Yes, you read well: 4 HOURS!!), where EVERY detail matters and you get really scary when someone from the Cyclists’ Union of Amsterdam appears on screen or a pigeon get killed with a rifle.
You ought to the city!
And Steven Boone thinks The New Rijksmuseum is a masterpiece. It’s up to you to trust him.
