STEALING SOCIALISM (2014), Manfred Vainokivi – IDFA 2014
Documentary – 53′
STILL and STEAL. Two keywords that sound terribly similar on this 50ish minutes doc about the old good times in soviet Estonia. Stealing was not only a way to survive, but a lifestyle well absorbed by the population.
A portrait of a piece of land still frozen in time: a little village with the soundtrack of a gipsy band playing Italian operetta and a local marriage on the background, where the locals are giving anecdotes on a much different reality from nowadays vibrant Tallinn.
After the first 15 minutes, there’s not much to add on the plate and it keeps rolling on itself, but it deserves a peek.
Screenings are on:
Monday Nov 24th – 19:30 – Pathé de Munt 10
Tuesday Nov 25th – 13:45 – Tuschinski 3
