MAGICAL AFRICA

If you haven’t been inside De Nieuwe Kerk yet, and it happens a lot to postpone a landmark visit if you have it right there at your disposal, the last days of MAGISCH AFRIKA – MAGICAL AFRICA can be a good occasion to amend.

Until February 15th you have the occasion to go deep into the cradle of humanity, admiring the origin of the World’s oldest culture, through an art often underestimated by art mainstream and relegated only to ethno-chic markets.

The exhibition focus on mysterious masks and sculptures from Ivory Coasts, which have been for long time dismissed as a form of craftwork, but now the artists are no longer anonymous and they can get the respect they reserve in this evocative installation.

Moreover, even if the Nieuwe Kerk is no longer used for church services, the fact that is hosting an exhibition about pagan religion is another sign of the openness of Amsterdam.

The exhibition doesn’t come cheap (15 €), but if you have a Museumkaart it’ll come with the price of a coffee (3,5 €).
